| New and rare hoverflies for the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae). Paragus albifrons (Fallén), P. bicolor (Fabricius), Sphegina verecunda Collin, Neoascia annexa (O.F. Müller), Callicera aenea (Fabricius), Cheilosia caerulescens (Meigen), C. chloris (Meigen), C. flavipes (Panzer), Chamaesyrphus scaevoides (Fallén), Xylota coeruleiventris Zetterstedt, Merodon rufus Meigen and Eristalis picea (Fallén) are recorded with full details for the first time from The Netherlands. Some of these species have been listed by other authors but without any details. Here additional notes are given on the distribution and biology of these twelve species as well as 49 other more or less rare species. |

| Cette étude présente la morphologie récente de l'embouchure du fleuve Bandama à Grand-Lahou. A l'interface eau/sédiment apparaissent des chenaux et des hauts fonds tapissés respectivement par des sables fins à très fins et des sables moyens. Les levés périodiques des contours de la passe effectués jusqu'en 1993 indiquent une migration significative de l'embouchure vers l'ouest avec une vitesse de déplacement de l'ordre de 1,1m/mois. Trois chenaux bien individualisés caractérisent la zone . Ce sont au sud-ouest le chenal lagunaire, à l'Est le chenal fluvial dont la profondeur atteint 8 mètres et au Nord le chenal de Lahou Kpanda. | Azolla pinnata as a possible replacement of the palm kernel cake in the diet of Oreochromis niloticus. Compounded diets from a control with palm kernel cake replaced at varying levels of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% with the aquatic fern (oven dried Azolla pinnata) were fed to Oreochromis niloticus for twelve weeks to determine the acceptability and utilization of the fern in the diet, verify the nutritional influence of the fern on the performance of the fish and possible optimum palm kernel cake replacement level. The fish readily accepted the test diets. Better growth responses were recorded in the treatments containing Azolla pinnata meal. | The coastal setting and the geology control the geomorphology on the Kenyan coast. The evolution of the physical environment has also been influenced by climate, wave and tidal regime, sedimentation and river discharge. The shore terraces of Kenyan coast correspond to eustatic movements of sea level. There seems to be evidence of a high water level during the late Pleistocene. For the lower terraces a Holocene age is suggested. During the Pleistocene, sea level fluctuations associated with glacial / interglacial phases left well developed raised platforms and beaches. | Cladistic analyses of pollen-morphological, leaf-anatomical and macromorphological data of Jagera, Trigonachras, and several new species lead to the conclusion that a new genus, Cnesmocarpon, has to be described (see the Taxonomic Part on p. 195). Two pollen types are described, one including Cnesmocarpon, the other including Jagera and Trigonachras. The morphologies of these pollen types suggest different harmomegathic systems: nonapertural and apertural folding respectively. The ornamentation of Cnesmocarpon pollen resembles that of several other Cupanieae genera. | Some experiments have been made with the large rotating tank at the Institut de Mecanique de Grenoble to reproduce a sinusoidal flow along a vertical wall, over a flat bottom, with or without slope, in a homogeneous fluid. The objective of these experiments was to simulate a tidal motion, restricted to its main harmonic component M2, parallel to a vertical coast; and to demonstrate a particular mode of generation of residual circulation near the coast as a result of the interaction between friction, background rotation of the system (Ekman pumping) and oscillatory motion (Stokes effects).
